"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Jesus Christ - John 13:34-35
Adopt a Mission was born as a vision in 1987, following Oom Albert’s spiritual sojourn to America. Adopt a Mission is the charity outreach of Entwined Roots Trust. The primary focus is on marginalized and economically challenged households, as an intervention strategy to keep people off the road and from becoming street dwellers.
The goals are to establish homesteads and development centres, to encourage, create and to collaborate on ingenuity, with consideration for sustainable solutions. The name says it all “Adopt a Mission” it is an open invitation to get involved and be part of a solution.
In 2019, the Entwined Roots Trust started informally supporting a group of youth from the Brooklyn community to play soccer. This developed into a senior and junior team regularly playing friendly local games across the Western Cape as the Brooklyn Stars, with minimum equipment and kit.
In 2021, after engagement with the Brooklyn, Ysterplaat, Rugby Residents Association and the local Ward Council - we agreed to bring together various informal soccer groups in the area (Brooklyn Stars, Ysterplaat FC, and Brooklyn Allstars) to create a combined community football club as a project of the Entwined Roots Trust – the Brooklyn Superstars FC with representation from these community groups to ensure broad participation.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Jesus Christ - Luke 4:18-19
