The Malmesbury Outreach is our newest effort toward building a platform to practice our faith. It involves a number of organizations in Malmesbury, and we have successfully been able to connect people with the sharing of potatoes and onions. Providing vegetables to about 3000 impoverished people and counting.

The Transformation Program was born out of a need for the rehabilitation of drug and alcohol addicts in the Brooklyn area. It facilitates change in the lives of addicts through a weekly program focusing on the principles underpinning the 12 steps program for addiction recovery, supported by the local Matrix outpatient program, and using the facilities of the local Brooklyn Library. The purpose of this outreach is to restore dignity and to inject people back into the economy stream.

From this community outreach, being involved as a trustee and supported by Adopt a Mission, it was possible to initiate and orchestrate the Transformation Program and Malmesbury outreach.

The outreach for the disadvantaged in the Rugby, Brooklyn and Ysterplaat communities, has helped provide feeding, clothing and social upliftment for the last 19 years. Adopt a Mission operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, feeding approximately 1000 - 2000 people. For this objective we provide fresh veggies and donated food, distributed into bags and given to families to take home. For this purpose, our request is for unused perishables that will otherwise go to waste (bread rolls etc.)

Adopt a Mission is the charity outreach of Entwined Roots Trust. Our primary focus is on marginalized and economically challenged households, as an intervention strategy to keep people off the road and from becoming street dwellers. Following the example of Jesus in how we engage the world, we seek to share the good news, feed the hungry, free those in captivity, and restore the broken-hearted.

Here some of the people we are connecting with:

• Swartland Haven Night Shelter 60 people

• Meals on Wheels 70 people

• Baptist Church Abbotsdale Soup Kitchen 350 people

• Church of Jesus Christ 100 people

• Oom Koos Apostolic Church 100 people

• Mamre Outreach 350 people

• Victory Praise 50 people

• Adri 50 people

• AFM Apostle Wesbank 100 people

Our current objective is to get premises so that we can have a central point of operations. Before the Covid pandemic, we had been given permission to use the Bay View Sports Field. It was shut down during the pandemic due to complications and maintenance issues. We have never been able to return since.

We are looking for any assistance to rent premises. One of the options that we have is a Methodist Church that is available to rent. We are open to any option that may be available. Preferably something that is more permanent.

We need a place where people can fellowship and don’t have to wait loitering in the streets for food. We need a space where we can get to know the people we are helping better in order for our workshops and programs to continue working. We need facilities to accommodate everything we do. Storage facilities for food, kitchen for cooking, space to train and facilitate people working and visiting.

Currently we are working out a garage that has been kindly granted by one of our neighbors. However not all the neighbors are as accommodating for the destitute and homeless.
